You Betcha Baby

You Betcha Baby!

Dec 20, 2018 | 11:00 AM

BC betters have something new to wager on  — where the first baby of 2019 will be born.

Twenty-four hospitals across the province are listed as betting options in  PlayNow.com’s newest novelty bet.

BC Women’s Hospital in Vancouver is favoured to welcome the first baby of the New Year with odds of 5/1, followed by Surrey Memorial Hospital with odds of 6/1.

That means there is a 17 and 14 per cent chance, respectively, that 2019’s first bundle of joy is born at one of those Lower Mainland locations.

Kelowna General Hospital has odds of 19/1 while Vernon Jubilee Hospital is 41/1.

East Kootenay Regional Hospital (Cranbrook), St. Joseph’s General Hospital (Comox), Penticton Regional Hospital and Cowichan District Hospital have the worst odds of 51/1, meaning there is a less than 2 per cent chance that the New Year’s Baby will be born at one of those locations.

For the past two years, B.C.’s first baby of the New Year entered the world in the Lower Mainland, at Surrey in 2018, and at B.C. Women’s Hospital in 2017.
