Council Approves 11% Pay Hike

Spallumcheen council has approved an 11.27 percent increase in pay for its members.
Mayor Christine Fraser says 8.37 percent is to make up for the loss of federal tax free status on one-third of their income, and the rest for cost of living (CPI) increases.
Fraser doesn’t think there will be a public backlash to the increase.
“When the federal government makes changes like that, I think people will understand that, but if we get a lot of public that are upset about it, we could revisit it,” Fraser tells Beach Radio News.
