Vernon SAR Get New Rescue Boat

Jul 13, 2018 | 7:27 AM

Vernon Search and Rescue volunteers are being trained to handle a new rescue boat that will be on the water this summer.

Spokesperson Trevor Honigman says it means SAR members will be ready for whatever they gave to face.

“The weather that can come up in the Okanagan creates obviously some large waves out on the Okanagan and this new boat will give us the capability of going out in any weather in any wind conditions and helping people throughout the area of Okanagan Lake.”

Honigman says boat will be well equipped for any emergency.

“It isn’t a pleasure craft changed over to be a search and rescue boat. It was designed for search and rescue. There’s places to out stretchers. All the equipment is there. There’s nothing on the boat that isn’t functional for search and rescue.”

Honigman says the boat will be on Okanagan Lake full-time for any emergencies SAR is called out for.
