Vernon Draws Line On Access Passes

Jul 12, 2018 | 6:13 AM

The City of Vernon is looking to tighten up costs tied to the affordable access pass program.

Mayor Akbal Mund says as of January 1 2019, the recreation program will only be available to citizens of participating communities, which include Vernon, Coldstream and Areas B and C.

He says Lumby, Armstrong and Spallumcheen have decided not to take part.

“It doesn’t mean the passes are not accessible. You can buy your own pass, but you will no longer be on the program that Vernon offers,” Mund tells Beach Radio News.

Mund says Vernon has decided to draw the line after subsidizing the program to the benefit of some communities.

“Now it’s come to a head that if you don’t want to be part of the program, we will drop the passes for the residents of the jurisdictions who don’t want to be in. I mean that’s fair.”
