Lake Country Cannabis Zoning

Jul 5, 2018 | 6:36 AM

Lake Country is rewriting its zoning amendments concerning cannabis production and sales.

Council Tuesday night gave 2nd reading to various amendments including the distance allowed between production facilities and dispensaries.

Mayor James Baker says like wineries with sales outlets, allowing commercial cannabis operations to have retail opportunities might make sense.

“Touring because they can do a couple of different wineries in quick time and thought that might be the case with cannabis as well.”

Original zoning regulations would have mandated a one kilometre distance between a production facility and a dispensary.

The amendments to clarify regulations, mostly around buffer zones.

Dispensaries would have to maintain specific distances between each other and schools.

“Four hundred metres from schools and daycares and a kilometre apart from dispensaries.”

That would keep dispensaries from being concentrated in one area.

The amendments still have to go through third reading and a public hearing.
