Residents of a Vernon townhouse had to be evacuated this morning due to a fire.
Fire chief David Lind says the call came in at 6:49 am from 3910 32nd Avenue, and when fire crews got there, smoke was found in the crawl spaces, and fire was found in a void between two of the homes.
“There was some pretty extensive work to in opening up the walls and floors to locate the fire and extinguish it,” says Lind.
Lind says there were no injuries and the cause is under investigation, possibly electrical.
“There are some pretty strong indications it’s a utility related fire, probably electrical in nature, but we don’t have a determination at this time.”
Two residents were displaced, and there was damage to three units.
“There is some major damage to the suite involved, there’s some minor damage to one of the adjoining suites, and the third unit just has some light smoke damage,” adds Lind.

The fire is out, and we are waiting for more details from Vernon Fire Rescue.
Beach Radio News attended the scene and the fire and damage did not appear to be major.
Vernon Fire Rescue continues to work on a residential structure fire.
It’s at at townhouse complex at 3910 – 32nd Avenue, and was first reported at 6:49 this morning.
“At present no injuries are reported, although the fire is reported to be heavy and labour intensive with additional resources called in to assist,” says a City of Vernon release.
