Update: Canada Day Homicide; Victim Identified

The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crimes Unit continue to work alongside the BC Coroners Service investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man late Sunday evening in downtown Kelowna.

The male was rushed to hospital in grave condition where he was later pronounced deceased after succumbing to his injuries.

“That victim has since been positively identified by police as 23-year-old Esa Carriere, who recently relocated to Kelowna from Mississauga Ontario.

Kelowna RCMP are looking to talk to any witnesses after a man was killed during an altercation near the Queensway Bus Loop on Canada Day.

Police were called to an altercation on Queensway at around 10:50 pm where they located a man on the ground.  He suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to the Kelowna General Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

“Kelowna RCMP are looking to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of City Hall on Queensway across from O’Flannigan’s Liquor Store between 10:30 pm and 11:00 pm,” says Cst. Lesley Smith. “The identity of the male victim is still unknown and we are hoping to locate a friend or family member who will notify the RCMP should they recognize the following description”.

The homicide victim is described as being a non white man in his 30’s, approximately 5’11’’, 150 lbs with long brown hair, long facial hair and brown eyes.  He was wearing black jeans, a rope belt and black shoes with white soles.  The victim also had several tattoos on his upper body, in particular a large colorful tattoo on his side.
