Tourists Making Trek To Vernon

Jun 28, 2018 | 6:42 AM

Vernon will be hosting lots of ball players and theatre lovers this long weekend.

Vernon tourism manager Ange Chew says about 220 slo-pitch teams will take part in the 34th annual Funtastic Festival, with nightly concerts at the DND grounds.

“It brings in a lot of ball teams that stay in our hotels and they eat and dine, and have a few beers afterwards at the music festival there, but also in town. We look forward to having Funtastic come to Vernon every year,” Chew tells Beach Radio News.

Also bringing people in is Theatre BC’s Mainstage, with eight plays over as many nights at the Performing Arts Centre.

“Our Okanagan zone is doing Calender Girls at the Performing Arts Centre on July 1st,” says Chew

Chew says the Canada Day event at Polson Park and fireworks from Kin Beach Sunday night will also bring in the crowds.

The Farmer’s Market on Tuesday is also expected to be busy.

Chew says at this point, local hotels and motels are 70% booked, while campgrounds and RV spaces are 95% full.

“Probably the August long weekend is the most busy (for tourism in Vernon), but this July is looking pretty good,” adds Chew.
