Update: Station Out of Gas

Jun 6, 2018 | 3:05 PM

At least one Vernon gas station had no gas to sell its customers earlier today.

The Petro Can on 25th Avenue had to put up the ‘Out of Gas’ sign this morning, and its not known if they have since had a delivery, or if other stations are impacted.

Dan McTeague from gasbuddy.com predicted earlier this week some gas shortages in Western Canada due to shrinking supply.

“It is directly related to the Edmonton Petro-Can refinery which is out longer than expected, and that’s creating a real run on supplies,” McTeague tells Beach Radio News.

Suncor is a supplier of gas to Petro-Can outlets.

They have not returned our request for comment.

Meantime, McTeague says stations in Vernon are not making a whole lot on the gas they are selling these days.

“It costs stations about $1.32 to buy their fuel today, so anybody who thinks that fuel shortages lead to higher prices only has to look at Vernon where you have some pretty skinny margins and the big boys are duking it out,” adds McTeague.

Gas prices in Vernon today are between $1.35 to $1.37 a litre, according to gas.buddy.com
