Minimum Wage Increases

Everybody being paid the minimum wage in BC gets a raise today.

The general minimum wage rises to 12 dollars and 65 cents an hour from $11.35.

Liquor servers will see their minimum go up by a buck 30 to 11 dollars and 40 cents an hour.

The minimum monthly wage for resident caretakers who manage from nine to 60 units increases by 11.5 per cent to 759 dollars and 32 cents plus 30 dollars and 43 cents per unit.

Those with 61 or more units get a minimum of two thousand 586 dollars and 40 cents.

The minimum wage for a live-in camp leader will increase 11.5% a day to $101.24.

For Live-in home support workers, the alternate minimum wage has been eliminated.

For any workers remaining in this category, the general minimum wage will apply for all hours worked.

These wage increases are the first of four annual increases that will take effect June 1st of each year.

By, June 2021, BC’s general minimum wage will rise to at least $15.20 per hour, and the separate lower liquor server wage will be eliminated.

In the agricultural sector, farm workers paid by piece rate will see an increase as of January 1st, 2019.

At that time, there will be an 11.5% increase to all minimum piece rates, with further study to take place in order to balance the needs of workers and the agriculture industry.
