City Says Kal Lake Road Project Going Well

A project to add a multi use path on Kalamalka Lake Road in Vernon is proceeding on schedule, according to city staff.

Work started in early April, and features a full road closure from Browne Road to the Alpine Centre.

Transportation Manager Amanda Watson says work crews have not experienced any issues.

“Part of the paving has been done and they’re working on the other sections now, and doing the installations on the conduit and the bases for the street lights. It’s going well,” says Watson.

Watson says she’s heard no complaints about the traffic detours, or from the businesses in the impacted area.

“We did clearly put up signs showing the alternate detour routes, and we have been publicizing that the Alpine Centre is open. People know that they can get around the closure and still get to the businesses in the Alpine Centre.”

The work should be done by early July.

LB Chapman is the contractor for the project which the city estimated at $4 million.

At the same time, the District of Coldstream is adding a multi use path on Kal Lake Road from the Alpine Centre to College Way, and doing prep work on a new parking lot to be used for the Okanagan Rail Trail.
