Alerts Lifted In Lumby

May 25, 2018 | 12:38 PM

The flood risk has officially been downgraded in Lumby.

The village has lifted evacuation alerts covering 160 homes and businesses along the creeks, and deactivated its emergency operations centre.

The village says creek levels are lower and have stabilized.

“We’re not going to say it’s (flood risk) over. The EOC could be re-activated if those conditions return, but at this point, we’re really not expecting that to happen,” village chief financial officer Jeremy Sundin tells Beach Radio News.

The Lumby Campground and Royals Ball Park have been reopened.

The Salmon Trail remains closed and should not be accessed.

The village will hold a townhall meeting at 5:30 pm Tuesday at the White Valley Community Hall to review the recently completed Floodplain Mapping Update and Earthworks Assessment Report.

“We will have the engineers there. Residents can come and talk about their sections, their concerns, and what they like, or don’t like about the report,” says Sundin.

Sundin says the village has issued a request for proposals to hire a consultant to develop a Flood Mitigation Plan to alleviate future flooding issues.

“There’s options that we probably haven’t even considered. Engineers with this specialty, will be able to come into the community, look at the information we have, look at the infrastructure we have, and help us come up with a plan.”
