Flood Threat Easing In Lumby

May 24, 2018 | 6:54 AM

Officials in Lumby are breathing easier over potential flooding in the village.

Mayor Kevin Acton says it appears the freshet has passed.

“We saw some of the peak flows and it did get up there quite a bit this year again. Thankfully, we had stuff in place and nothing got damaged too bad.”

Acton says the situation has improved enough, the village will likely shut down its Emergency Operations Centre.

“Our creek levels have dropped I think 45 mils or something quite significantly. And so we’re still seeing a lot of water go through town but it’s quite low.”

Acton says as long as there isn’t any sudden change in the weather with a lot of rain, everything should be fine.

The next move will be to determine what to do with the earthworks that are in place.
