Towering Project For Resort

May 23, 2018 | 5:00 PM

It was a major operation — but it seems to have gone well.

Silver Star Mountain Resort had a helicopter flying 11 towers for its new gondola into place Wednesday.

The resort’s Wesla Wong says the towers are divided into three parts.

“So if you can imagine, the tower itself needs to be flown into place, and then the top of the tower has to be attached, and then the wheels on the tower also have to be  flown in,” says Wong.

Wong says the heaviest load was 87-hundred pounds.

The operation also involved Vancouver Island Helicopters and Doppelmayr, the maker of the lift.

Wong says the weather cooperated, and the process went well.

“We lucked-out with the good team work that we had here, to get all 11 towers up and ready for the next stage.”

Silver Star is investing ten million dollars into the new high speed lift which will replace the Summit chair.

The new lift should be ready for use by July 7th.
