Cherryville Days Becomes Cherryville Day

Cherryville will proceed with one of its big annual events — but with some changes due to high water levels.

The 55th annual Cherryville Days will be shortened to a one-day event — to be held Saturday June 2nd and called Cherryville Day.

RDNO Director Hank Cameron says the celebration will be relocated to the Cherryville Community Hall due to high levels on Cherry Creek at the normal site in Hanson Park.

“Hanson Park has swift water flowing adjacent to the playground and bandstand, which is hazardous for young families. Consensus was reached by over a dozen organizers that a single day at the Hall would be the best alternative solution,” says Cameron.

The event is an important fundraiser for the Cherryville Community Club, which manages and maintains community facilities, and is organized and run by volunteers.

“Festivities will commence on Saturday, June 2, as always, when the Cherryville Days Parade leaves the Cherryville Emporium at 12 noon,” says a news release from chairperson Natalie Fleming.

“Then, rather than taking the fun down into Hanson Park, Cherryvillans, visitors and friends, will descend upon Cherryville Community Hall for all of our favourite games and events, including the Pet Show, and the final run of the infamous Outhouse Races.”

Valhalla Helicopters will be on site again, offering 10-minute rides and an aerial view of Cherryville, from the property located next door to the Community Hall.

On Saturday night, the Cherryville Day “High Water Dance” will be held at Cherryville Community Hall, featuring live music by Feet First. Tickets are available in Cherryville at Frank’s General Store and Cherryville Emporium, and in Lumby at Jitter Beans Coffee House. Sorry, no minors.

“The Cherryville Community Hall will have a concession and beer garden; and will be filled to the rafters with Cherryville cheer! So come on out, the soggy Hollywood red carpet has been dried off and is ready to greet you up at the Hall.”
