State of Emergency In Lake Country

May 15, 2018 | 5:29 PM

A State of Local Emergency has been declared for the District of Lake Country.

It’s a precautionary measure due to potential high water levels on the local lakes.

It gives crews access to specific private properties in order to protect public infrastructure.

Local states of emergency are also in place for Kelowna, Peachland and West Kelowna, and for part of the Central Okanagan’s West Electoral Area.

“Flood prevention and mitigation efforts are underway throughout the region as officials continue to monitor lake levels, roads, culverts, weather, creeks and streams,” says a news release.

A self-serve sandbag filling station has been set up in Lake Country in the southwest parking lot at Beasley Park (3450 Woodsdale Road).

Watch www.lakecountry.bc.ca for more information as additional local sandbag filling stations are set up in Oyama and Carr’s Landing.
