Armstrong Lifts Evacuation Alert

May 15, 2018 | 12:52 PM

The City of Armstrong has lifted an evacuation alert covering about 60 homes along Meighan Creek.

The precautionary measure had been in place since last week when creek levels were rising, but officials say the levels have dropped to the point where the alert is no longer necessary.

The homes impacted are on Willowdale Road, Patterson  Avenue and lower Becker Street.

Emergency program coordinator Warren Smith says there could still be rapid rises in levels as the snow melts at higher elevations.

“The State of Local Emergency remains in place at this time as day time temperatures are forecasted to be 8-10 degrees above the seasonal normal; we could still see rapid rises in creek flows as the snow melts at higher elevations,” says Smith.

Sand and bags are available for self-filling at the Public Works Yard located at 2950 Patterson Avenue and at the corner of Bridge Street and Okanagan Blvd.
