Lumby Cannabis Survey Favourable

May 11, 2018 | 6:15 AM

Lumby is the latest community to get ready for cannabis sales.

Acting Mayor Nick Hodge says the results of a survey of residents about that came back with an overwhelming response.

“We found out that 83 per cent of the people who responded to the survey support retail sales in Lumby. So, we’ve asked administration to go ahead and draft bylaws.”

Around one hundred and fifty people filled out the survey.

There are some concerns.

“Location I think was the most significant. Keep it away from schools and where children gather. That seems obvious and I think the provincial government is also drafting regulations for that.”

Other issues mentioned were security requirements and hours of operation.

Hodge says there wasn’t a distinct answer on the number of stores that should be allowed.

He says there was some interest in restricting it to one or two stores and then were other people who just wanted to leave it open and let the market decide.
