Tourism Reps Get Refresher On Attractions

May 11, 2018 | 5:37 PM

The summer tourism season is just around the corner — and an event next week aims to get the word out about Vernon.

City Tourism manager Ange Chew says 40 people from BC Visitor Centres and from local tourism businesses will visit local attractions to become more familiar with what’s available.

“Sometimes we forget what’s in our own backyard. So it’s a good refreshment for our front line (hotel and other) staff to see what’s new, a good networking session for all the partners in general, and an opportunity for our local partners to network with all the BC Visitor Centre teams,” Chew tells Beach Radio News.

The 40 participants will be coming from as far away as Whistler and Prince George.

“They will say, ‘If you’re heading to the Okanagan, stop into Vernon. I went there and did this, and you might enjoy it too,'” says Chew.

Twenty-four tourism partners will be showcased, ranging from stand up paddle boarding to downtown shops, along with key attractions like Davison Orchards, The O’Keefe Ranch, and the Greater Vernon Museum.

The third annual event VIP Industry Familiarization event will be held Monday and Tuesday.
