Westside Road remains closed in both directions at the site of last week’s washout 3 kilometres north of Fintry.

Wayne Carson, the Central Okanagan Regional District’s Director for the Westside, says he’s been told it’s just a precaution because of today’s rain.

“They’re going to exercise a little extra caution and bring in a geotech this afternoon and have the road assessed and make sure it is safe. In the meantime, at the present, it’s closed to anything except emergency traffic.”

Carson is angry the District’s Emergency Operations Centre never sent out a notice.

“We’ve got people, uh, you know making arrangements for their children to go to school. And this is in both directions. If they’re in Valley of the Sun or upper Fintry areas their children go to school in Vernon. They’re not going to be able to get through.”

Carson says the closure is in place until at least 2:30 this afternoon.

He says the road will be closed at least until 2:30 and depending on what the assessment uncovers, it could be closed into tomorrow

There’s been another washout on Westside Road 3 kilometres north of Fintry.

Drive BC says the road is closed in both directions until further notice.

An assessment of the area is being done and an update is expected by about 10 am.
