Items that didn’t sell on the weekend will be auctioned off today at an information gathering of  members of 17 Shuswap Bands, members of the Secwepmec nation to talk about the missing women.

Jody Leon  says it’s an opportunity to gather information and share details.

“We’ve got spiritual people coming, healers and different kinds of people and we’re asking for our native constable to come and explain to people what they should do in the event somebody in their family goes missing. It’s a time to raise awareness of the issue. It has historically been going on for a long, long time.”

Leon says it’s also an opportunity to show the families they’re supported.

“Helping to support the word of the women, asking for closure for the families, and for the families having the ability to come forward and have a place to have their voice heard.”

The event is being put on at the Splatsin Community Centre in Enderby by the BC Family Information Liaison Unit formed out of recommendations from the National Inquiry on Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women.
