Charges Laid In Assault Case

A man has been charged with aggravated assault and unlawful confinement after allegedly beating up a woman in Lake Country.

Police were called to the 13000 block of McCreight Road Sunday afternoon, and were met outside a home by a severely beaten woman and an incoherent man who was arrested.

RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says, “The scene was secured by police who obtained a warrant to search the premises to gather evidence in order to advance their investigation. CMP can confirm that this was an isolated incident, where the suspect and the victim were known to each other, and the public was not at any risk,” says O’Donaghey.”

39-year-old Lonnie Noel Smith remains in custody and makes his next court appearance Friday. He’s been formally charged with aggravated assault, unlawful confinement and uttering threats.
