Relief On Way For Faded Road Lines

The faded road lines in Vernon are making driving more difficult for some motorists.

Councillor Scott Anderson says it’s an annual issue, that generates plenty of complaints.

He says he had a recent scare, in a turning lane.

“I really wasn’t sure if I was facing oncoming traffic or in the turning lane at the time, so yes, it can be dangerous potentially,” Anderson tells Beach Radio News.

Mayor Akbal Mund agrees the current lines can be hard to see.

“It’s very dangerous at night, especially when it rains. No one is arguing that point, but it’s something we can only do our part, and everybody has to do their part for it too,” says Mund.

City public works manager James Rice says a contractor has been hired, and fresh symbols should start to be painted on road next week, with the road lines to start once the street sweeping wraps up, in a few weeks.

Rice says the City is also sampling other types of high latex paints to see if they last longer.

Mund says any type of paint will fade the more it gets driven over.

“The paint is still existing where people go on a straight-away. It’s kind of one way or the other. I think more and more people just don’t drive between the lines, and it makes it wear faster.”
