Spall Mayor To Meet With ALC On Land Request

Plans to create new industrial land in Spallumcheen could hinge on a decision from the Agricultural Land Commission.

Mayor Janice Brown says she and others from the township will be meeting with the Agricultural Land Commission Wednesday in Vancouver, making their case for an exclusion.

“We will try to show them all the reasons why it should be industrial , and how it will benefit the farming community around there, and increase some of our property taxes,” Brown tells Beach Radio News.

Brown says it’s part of the township’s Southeast Sector plan.

“If we think way down the road, it will come all the way up the highway, and some day it may join up to Tolko and be an industrial strip. I mean, I’m talking fifty years,” adds Brown.

Brown says approval would benefit their plan for the Southeast sector, which has been in the works for over ten years.

“You can’t have wastewater if you don’t have any businesses to pay for it, and you don’t need water if you don’t have businesses, and if we can get the businesses, then it will increase the property taxes and create employment.”

The mayor says the ALR application is to remove some of the rock bluff north of the Great West Equipment building, from the land reserve.
