Enderby Preparing To Work With FireSmart Grant

Apr 23, 2018 | 6:24 AM

The city of Enderby has been approved for a 20187 FireSmart grant of just under 99 hundred dollars.

The funding will be used for the city’s Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative.

Mayor Greg McCune says no decisions have been made on what projects should be handled.

“We’ll be looking at to the north on the western side of the community. I mean, obviously we have the river, that type of things that surround us on the other side. So I think it’s basically that it’s the western side of our region, you between us and Splatsin.”

McCune says he expects a public consultation will be involved.

“And they may suggest you know some barriers and that type of thing. I think a lot of it may come down to just information for private landowners. You know if you’ve got your house up there and and your surrounded on five or six acres and it’s quite heavily treed I think there will be some  guidance that’ll go toward them improving and reducing the risk on their own property.”

He says even just getting out and raking up debris and and any other work that could slow a fire’s advance would be a benefit

McCune says there’s no room to be complacent after what happened in other areas last year.
