Tentative Approval For Modular Home In Kalavista Neighbourhood

Coldstream Council has given its tentative approval to a Kalavista Drive man’s request to have a modular home on his property.

Lynn Spraggs has faced opposition from some of his neighbours because they don’t feel it fits the area.

Mayor Jim Garlick says council just wants one assurance.

“It was given third reading and also with direction to staff to get a covenant that the building that will be built there is the same as the plan that was presented.”

Spraggs had explained to council that his current home is now too large for him and his wife.

The modular home they sought out will not take away from the esthetics of the neighbourhood and his daughter would move into the current home.

The Mayor says as long as the finished product is what was presented to council, it works.

“I think the main thing to understand is, it is a building that can be built on site. They’ve just chosen to build it off-site and assemble on-site.”

Garlick says times have changed when it comes to manufactured or modular homes.

“What they used to look like more has improved considerably. The manufacturers of them have increased their ability to design them and building them off-site to bring them on-site.”

Once the covenant is agreed to, the matter will get final approval and rezoning so that Spraggs can go ahead.
