Lake Country Sets Building Permit Record

Lake Country is marking another record year for the number of building permits issued in 2017

A report to council this week shows 431 permits compared with 380 the previous year.

Mayor James Baker says it’s further proof of the popularity of the area.

” I don’t know, people discovering the Okanagan or discovering Lake Country but we continue to keep growing and as long as we can fit them in without impacting the existing too much, it’s working quite well.”

The value of construction last year was 92.4 million dollars compared with 89.4 million in 2016.

Baker says people are coming and the district is trying to be ready for them, especially for multi-family housing.

“Yeah and to a large extent that’s because the infrastructure is there to serve them and this pays for the infrastructure.”

He says the more people who move in, the less likelihood of having to cause taxes while providing the same services.
