Armstrong Changes Snow Clearing Policy

Jan 12, 2018 | 7:11 AM

The City of Armstrong has to make some changes to its new snow clearing policy.

The policy was changed in the fall, but Mayor Chris Pieper says there have been so many complaints
the city has had to go back to the old plan.

” We gave direction to public works to go back to the old system of clearing the roads all to one side when there is sidewalks on one side.”

The new policy saw snow cleared to both sides of the roads.

“And put half of it on one side and half on the other just to share the responsibility. But what happened there was the sidewalks were getting plugged up. The roads were narrowed up by about 5 feet.”

Mayor Pieper says things just weren’t working well.

He says the city will stick with the former policy while the entire winter maintenance plan is reworked.

Pieper says along with the complaints, the city received some positive letters with ideas on how to improve snow clearing.
