Vernon City Councillor Wants Controls On Home Chimney Smoke

Jan 11, 2018 | 7:59 AM

A Vernon councilor is asking city staff to find a way to deal with homes that create excess smoke from indoor fireplaces, impacting their neighbors.

Scott Anderson says there’s been complaints about that in some neighborhoods.

“If somebody complains about a lot of smoke coming out of a chimney, the bylaw people merely have to look at that, and see,” says Anderson.

Anderson says it’s currently not covered by any bylaw, and he has asked administration to look into it.

“My understanding is bylaw officers have been called in this situation and have said they can’t do anything because there is no regulation for indoor burning, so this is what I’m asking for, is some sort of regulation for indoor burning.”
