Modular Homes Discussed In Coldstream

Jan 11, 2018 | 7:51 AM

Coldstream’s Mayor thinks clearing up confusion over the difference between a modular home and a mobile home would help a Kalavista Drive homeowner.

Lyn Spraggs and his wife have asked for a bylaw amendment to allow to have a smaller modular home placed on their property.

Several neighbours  are against it, saying it doesn’t fit the neighbourhood and would drive down property values.

Mayor Jim Garlick says it may just be some clarity is needed about the differences between a modular home and a manufactured home.

“Modular homes are these ones manufactured off site, which are regular 2 by 4 , 2 by 6 construction. manufactured homes are what you call mobile homes.”

At the same time,  Garlick thinks modular homes deserve a second look

“It would require a change, like a permanent change would have to go through a process. But just looking at what modulars are. One of the suggestions from residents was actually allowing them across the district entirely.”

A public hearing this seek on the request was adjourned until the next meeting.
