Park Land Used To Straighten Westside Road

Jan 11, 2018 | 2:22 PM

BC Parks has been given permission to use a small portion of Fintry Provincial Park for the realignment of Westside Road.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan has given the permission.

RDCO has tenure over more than 320-hectares of an adjacent District lot in the park, and is named in a registered covenant on the affected District lot.

Any change in use of these lands requires written permission by the Regional District or BC Parks.

The Transportation Ministry is proposing to use a third of a hectare to straighten a section of road, improving safety and visibility for motorists.

“By using a .32-hectare portion of the park to straighten a section of the road, (it would) eliminate dangerous curves and rock outcrops and providing a wider shoulder for pedestrians and cyclists,” says a RDCO release.
