Enderby Mayor Optimistic About Growth

A report to Enderby Council this week shows the value of building permits issued so far this year is almost 5 times as much as last year at the same time.

More than 10 million 300 thousand dollars in value is listed.

Mayor Greg McCune says it`s a combination of new construction and renovation work.

“A little bit of everything, across the board. The one new 11 lot subdivision that was approved in April, It`s already got five homes built on it. I think it`s got two or three more scheduled, so it`s over half it`s capacity.”

McCune adds the downtown core is continuing to see development as well.

He says more and more he`s seeing people look to the North Okanagan as an affordable place to settle down in.

It`s not just people from the coast moving up, but people coming in from out of province as well.

“Kelowna’s pretty majorly crazy busy. So why not come a little bit north. I think we saw years ago Oliver and Osoyoos saw that nice growth. Now we`re going to see it in the north. We`re just trying to position ourselves for that growth.”

McCune feels Enderby does have room to grow.

“Absolutely, we really do. We’re landlocked a little bit by the Splatsin on the south, the river on the east. Other than that, we have enough space I think to have some pretty nice homes. And again, you’re pretty close to everything.”

McCune says growth does bring issues to resolve such as policing and water services, but he feels those are not major hurdles
