Vernon Cannabis Forum ‘Answers Questions’

Nov 17, 2017 | 3:42 PM

People got a chance to find out more about the implications of marijuana being legalized at a forum in Vernon.

About 60 people attended the event at the Vernon Art Gallery Thursday evenng, sponsored by the gallery along with the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce.

Gallery executive director Dauna Kennedy Grant says people were able to ask questions of reps from community policing and business, along with a UBCO associate professor and local cannabis grower.

“There was a lot of experts throughout the room which was really nice, that were able to answer questions and address different things, but we had people from all walks of life that were coming to hear what the different people had to say. I think there’s so many unknowns out there right now,” Kennedy Grant tells Kiss FM.

Questions included how pot could affect labour laws and landlord-tenant rules.

“There is a lot of policy redevelopment that will have to happen, like bylaw re-development and that type of thing,” says Kennedy Grant.

She says it was a wide ranging conversation.

“For myself, I found it very interesting to hear what an economic engine that will be going forward, like what a large industry it potentially is going to be, and the amount of money it’s going to be bringing through the BC economy especially.”

Kennedy Grant says they were pleased with the turnout, and the gallery will look at hosting a follow-up event in the future.

“It’s the first time we’ve tried something like this, and got a lot of positive feedback.

The gallery decided to hold the event in conjunction with with their current exhibition called ‘Cultivate’ on cannabis cultivation.
