Lumby Flood Mitigation

Jul 12, 2017 | 6:21 AM

The Village of Lumby isn`t sure yet what`s going to happen to the berms that were hastily erected during the flood

Mayor Kevin Acton says there is still a lot to figure out.

He says the berms will be part of a mitigation study done over the summer.

“They may be changed. They may be removed. They may be built up, we don’t know.”

Mayor Acton says for the most part, they were constructed well, but there may be some questionable materials

” I know there were places where cloth was used and other places plastic might have been used to retain some of the material behind the rip wrap, so there’s some work to do.”

Acton says an engineer will take a good look at them.

The Village had 150 thousand dollars sitting in the bank for flood mitigation plans.

The federal government has kicked in 226 thousand.

Mayor Kevin Acton says leaves over 300 thousand dollars for flood plain mapping and hydrology reports.

“We’re going to be looking at mapping out the whole water course and all the hydrology and storm sewers and the diking and make sure everything is fine-tuned and is going to work properly in time of need.”
