Water Quality Advisory Lifted

A five week old Water Quality Advisory has been lifted for customers of the Killiney Beach water system in the Westside Road area.

The regional District of Centreal Okangan and Interior Health says the turbidity caused by high lake levels has decreased.

About 280 properties are connected to the system.

RDCO Communications Officer Bruce Smith says, “Water quality is once again within acceptable and safe Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines, as turbidity caused by the historically high levels of the Okanagan Lake has decreased allowing us to remove the precautionary Water Quality Advisory. No longer are customers of the Killiney Beach system advised to boil their water before using it for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables or brushing their teeth.”

Sandbags remain in place to protect the intake pumphouse from the continued high lake water levels. Residents are asked not to remove any of these flood protection defenses.

Smith adds, “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers on the over 280 properties connected to the water system since the advisory was brought in over five weeks ago. We wish to remind residents on the system that the advisory was a precautionary measure and that no bacteria were detected within the water system.”

Customers are reminded that in order to allow adequate water supplies in our reservoirs Stage 2 outdoor watering restrictions are in place until September 15th. Customers with even number addresses may irrigate outdoors on Saturday and Tuesday while those with odd addresses may only water outside on Sunday and Wednesday.
