Vernon Fire Rescue gets new fire engine
After some delay, Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) has finally received a new fire engine.
In 2023, Vernon city council approved the purchasing of the new fire vehicle. However, staff encountered some challenges in procuring the vehicle in terms of supply shortages, unanticipated cost escalation and long build timelines.
A staff report to council stated the city received the apparatus on March 19, and “it will be pushed into service on April 15, 2024, after being fully equipped.”
It was noted that this addition to the fleet is an important milestone as it will mean all three of the Vernon’s fire stations will be equipped with a Fire Underwriters Survey (FUS) recognized apparatus, which can be used for front line service for up to 15 years, though in some cases the FUS recognition allows the apparatuses to be in use for a total of 20 years.
