UPDATE: Criminality not suspected in Cherryville barn fire

The police have ruled out foul play in a hay barn fire Friday.

Cst. Chris Terleski with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP told Vernon Matters reports of the blaze that destroyed the barn in Cherryville were received shortly before 9 a.m. Jan. 12.

He said officers did not attend the scene and criminality was not suspected.

The cause of the fire was not identified, and details on how it was extinguished was not provided.

A farm in Cherryville is without feed for their animals following a fire.

Kindra Peterson posted on social media Friday, Jan. 12, that the barn went up in flames, resulting in the loss of hay, animal feed, farm gear, and tools.

The location of the fire was not disclosed.

In her post, Peterson said she was in need of hay, as well as food for dogs and goats.

Vernon Matters reached out to Peterson for comment on the blaze, but as of time of publication, she had not responded to the request.

The Lumby Fire Department confirmed that they did not respond to the blaze as it was located out of their fire protection district.
