Drug alert issued for downer with fentanyl in Vernon

Interior Health is warning of a toxic drug found in Vernon.

The health authority said a light purple or pink substance being sold as a downer has been found to contain high concentrations of fentanyl and benzodiazapines.

The substance poses a high risk of overdose and fatal overdoses, particularly because benzodiazapines can negate the effectiveness of Naloxone.

IH advises people visit a drug checking location, use at an Overdose Prevention Site, not use alone, start with small doses and spread out uses, do not mix with other drugs, and carry Naloxone.
