UPDATE: Driver injured in crash that cut power to thousands

UPDATE: 1:45 p.m.

RCMP have released details about a single-vehicle crash in Vernon’s Mission Hill area this morning that caused a power outage affecting more than 7,000 customers.

Police say a vehicle lost control on 34th Street and hit a hydro pole near 22nd Avenue just before 6 a.m.

“The driver sustained minor injuries and road conditions were determined to be a contributing factor,” Cpl. Tania Finn, media relations officer, said.

BC Hydro crews restored service just after 8: 00 a.m.

Crash knocks out power for over 7,000 homes

More than 7, 700 BC Hydro customers were without power for just over two hours this morning.

Hydro says the lights went off at homes in the Vernon and Coldstream area just before 6 a.m.

The cause was a motor vehicle crash, with reports saying a vehicle hit a power pole  on 21st Avenue in the Mission Hill area.

Power was restored just after 8:00 a.m.
