William "Bill" Harry Compton

William (Bill) Compton, 85, of Vernon, previously Lumby, passed away on Jan. 23, 2025, after a battle with numerous health conditions.
Bill was born on Dec. 10, 1939 to Mildred and Harry Compton in Creston, BC and grew up in Hazleton, BC.
After graduating in Vancouver, he moved to Lumby where he was an accountant for Bell Pole, for many years. While in Lumby he enjoyed bowling, curling, golfing, while volunteering for the Lumby Lions Club, Curling Club, Golf Club and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vernon.
After retiring Bill spent his time golfing more and again volunteering for the Lumby Lions. In 2002 he was given the Citizen of the Year award in Lumby for the countless hours of volunteering he did for the community.
In 1975, Bill met Sandie Kalusik at bowling and they also enjoyed curling together. Bill and Sandie got married and went on to have one daughter.
Bill was predeceased by mother, father, sister Betty and her husband Toby Marshall. He is survived by his daughter Crystal, her husband Dan Williams and their son Alexander, Bill’s sister Diane Dyck, as well as his brother Bob Compton and wife Gail.
Services will be held at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Feb. 21, 2025 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Independent Living Vernon or the Lions Club, two organizations Bill felt strongly about.
