It is with deep sadness and much love that the family mourns the passing of our Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather at the age of 89 years.
Dad is survived by his children Patti (Glen) Kreller, Doug Roth, Shelley (Curt) Shank, 9 Grandchildren: Kevin (Trisha) Swan, Heather (Nelson) Jespersen, Graham (Roma Sobieski) Swan, Erin Swan, Shawna Klassen-Roth, Christopher (Brenda) Klassen-Roth, Michael (Carennia) Klassen-Roth, Hunter Shank and Hannah Shank, his 16 Great-Grandchildren as well as relatives and numerous friends. He is also survived by his special friend Ruth McCallister.
He was predeceased by his partner, Judy Duncan, who passed away from ALS in 2005.
Our Dad opened the first A&W in Vernon in 1962 and owned numerous restaurants in the area, including the Okanagan Cafe, Scotty’s Pancake House, the Beefeater Inn Steak House and Paddington Station Fish and Chips. In his semi-retirement years, he was very successful in Real Estate.
He was a prominent & active member of the community. He was the founding member of the Beefeater Bobcats Men’s Slo-Pitch Team, was part owner of the Vernon Essos Junior Hockey team (now the Vernon Vipers), and coached the Vernon Tigers Senior B Lacrosse Team to 3 consecutive National Titles.
Dad, you always lived your life to the fullest. Your love for your family and easy going personality will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Church Hall, 3300 Alexis Park Drive in Vernon, BC.
In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make donations to the ALS Society of BC.
