Tanner Ryan Gorius
April 19, 1979-March 16, 2022
Suddenly and unexpectedly, our smiling, blue-eyed Dad, partner, son, cousin, nephew and friend, Tanner passed away at the age of 42.
Tanner’s spirit and legacy lives on in his children Ash (22), Terran (17), Owen (15) and Everson (11 months).
Within minutes of knowing Tanner, you would know that he loved his children and was proud of them. He defined himself by his love for his family- they were always on his mind and in his heart. He was fiercely protective of his boys and his thoughts, actions and future plans revolved around them. Tanner was kind, full of integrity, hard working, adventurous, honest, and smart; he always hoped for the best in people and would give anyone the shirt from his back if he thought they needed it.
Tanner loved the outdoors. He had many adventures with his family and loved to be in nature. Every year without fail, he helped to plant a garden to feed his boys. He lived for the summer days of camping, fishing, kayaking, and hiking with his children. All he wanted from life was a quiet place on a lake to spend happy moments with his family.
Tanner was born in Lumsden, SK on April 19, 1979. He lived and worked in Calgary, Fort St. John, Vernon, Lumby, and Grand Forks. He worked hard and made many sacrifices for his family over the years. His love for the outdoors led to him having many jobs over his career in oil and gas, tree clearing, and landscaping. In the latter years, Tanner had his own tree service company that he named after his children; he was known for giving good deals and extra benefits to his clients.
Tanner’s close friends, who were like family, share decades of memories of all the things they did together with their much-loved “Tubesteak”. Tanner was up for anything in his younger years and had the scars to prove it. One of his favorite adult memories was a weeklong dirt biking trip throughout the US with his friends. He loved campfires and barbeques and never hesitated to be the cook, chop wood, or help with clean-up.
Tanner met April and Ash in 2002 while he was working up north. April fell in love with his blue eyes and kind heart. For 20 years and through many ups and downs they were partners and best friends who shared a deep, enduring love and were committed to loving their children together. His laugh, legendary breakfasts, adventurous spirit, kind heart, and unwavering commitment to being present for his children will be missed the most by April.
He taught April how to cook, chop wood, and garden but most importantly he taught April about love, loyalty, and family; he was an amazing dad.
Tanner loved with fierceness but losing his entire birth family by age 22 left him devastated. Many knew both Tanner and his sister, Brandy; they were inseparable best friends. They also shared a unique laugh that will be fondly remembered. Tanner carried the heartbreak of losing Brandy for the rest of his life.
His family and friends are comforted by knowing that Tanner is no longer in pain and can reunite with his beloved mom (Beverly d. 1985), dad (Terrance d. 1999) and sister Brandy (d. 2001) who also left this earth far too soon. He is also with his grandparents (Mark and Victoria Bula, Delmar Gorius).
Tanner leaves behind his children Ash, Terran, Owen, and Everson. His partner, April. His aunt Irene who was his rock and adopted mom.
Tanner is mourned by his step-grandmother Pat Gorius, cousins Jaylene and Ellen and their families. He will be missed by his many friends and extended family across Canada.
