Styntje Hoekstra

Styntje “Styn” Hellinga was born on Feb 21. 1951 in Kommerzijl, Groningen, The Netherlands.
Her parents were Liepke Hellinga and Gerritdina Hellinga Haaksma.
Styn married the love of her life, Jake Hoekstra, on Jan 2. 1968 and the two remained as one for the next 54 years.
Jake and Styn were blessed with nine children: Anita, Erik, Helen, Philip, Gerry, Daniel, Benjamin, Miriam and David. They were also blessed with forty grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Jake and Styn started their lives together in The Netherlands before immigrating to Canada then to Australia and then back to Canada in 1997. Styn devoted her life to the raising of her children. As the children grew older, Styn started and ran several successful businesses. Throughout her life, Styn was an active member of the Reformed Churches and spent much of her time volunteering and serving in various ways.
In July of 2021, Styn was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.
The Lord called Styn into his loving arms in Heaven on Jan 1. 2022.
Styn will be deeply missed. She was truly loved by all those left behind. In lieu of flowers, donations in Styn’s memory may be made to the Vernon Search and Rescue https://vernonsar.ca/.
