1948-2022
We regret to announce the passing of Steve Bateman at the age of 74. He was born in Gales Creek, Oregon on March 24, 1948.
Steve is survived by his long-time friend, Beth. He is also survived by his three sons; Doug (Corrie), Kip (Launie) and Andy (aka Athrun), three grandchildren; Makayla, Hunter and Byron; and his sister, Charlotte. He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Hazel Bateman and by his brother, Rick Bateman.
Growing up in Oregon, Steve enjoyed working on his family’s tree farm as well as local dairy farms, through his participation in the Future Farmers of America organization. Steve trained as a Heavy Duty Mechanic. After he married Peggy Moty, they moved to Canada in 1972 and started their family in Westbank, B.C..
Steve owned his own logging company. He worked, fished and hunted for many years throughout the Okanagan Valley. He loved the mountains, salmon fishing, logging and his family. Steve’s passion was the family tree farm and he visited his hometown so often that he was still as well known in Gales Creek as he was in Westbank.
Steve passed away on April 20/22, surrounded by family and loved ones. He will be missed. His ashes will be spread at his beloved family tree farm at a later date.
A casual, open house celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, May 28/22 from 1-4 pm at the Lakeview Heights Community Hall, 860 Anders Rd, Westbank, B.C.. in lieu of flowers; donations may be made to Parkinson Canada or bcdiabetes.ca
