Sadie “June” Banting (nee Chappell)

June was born on July 30, 1931 to Alex and Pearl Chappell in Kitchener, ON and was raised on a dairy farm in St. Eleanors, PEI. She moved west to Calgary, AB in 1951 to attend Alberta Bible College and married Elgin Banting on April 16, 1955. They lived on the homestead family farm near Macrorie, SK where they raised their children, Blayne (b. 1956), Colleen (b.1957) and Malcolm (b.1960).
June was actively involved in her local community and church life. She was renowned for her gracious hospitality and cheerful, outgoing personality. Along with her husband, June was foundational in establishing and developing the Macrorie Family Camp which was an annual event for many church people from all over Western Canada and beyond. She was fond of animals, baking and bowling. Her love for and interest in people made her a sought after confidant and a peacemaker between many.
June died peacefully on Monday, December 27, 2021 in Lumby, BC with her daughter by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Elgin (2014), son Malcolm (2003) and by her parents, Alex and Pearl Chappell, sisters Eunice and Audrey and brother Prowse. She is survived by her son, Blayne (Peggy) Banting, daughter, Colleen (Barry( Rumsey, and daughter-in-law Susan Delparte; grandchildren, Sarah, Nathaniel, Hannah, Benjamin, Cody, Dane, Jordan, Marla and Marshall and great grandchildren Henry, Finley, Elsie, Ella, Theodor, Alexander, Rachel, Grace, Emily ,Lily, Malachi, Jeremiah, Daniel, Bethany, Cash, Rylynn, Malcolm, Norah and Lilly.
June impacted the lives of everyone she came in touch with and will be greatly missed by family and friends. She loved people and camp dearly and in lieu of flowers, if you’d like, please donate to DVM Bible Camp or Monashee Mews in memory of June, a life well lived. There will be a celebration of her life January 15, 2022 at 2:00 at Lumby Christian Church.
