Reginald (Reg) Leonard McGratten passed away in his sleep on June 1, 2022, in Vernon, BC. Reg was predeceased by his parents Tom and Alice, his brother Gerry and his sister-in-law Emilia. He leaves behind his wife Leanne, his daughter Maureen (Tim), stepson Ryan and stepgrandson Dominic, stepdaughter Stephanie (Mazen), sisters Marjorie (Jack), Elaine (Dave), and Marilyn (Brian), brothers Bob (Ria), Allen (Noreen) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Reg was born on September 13, 1940 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After becoming an electrician, Reg started his career with Sask Power in the early 1960s. He then accepted a role with BC Hydro in 1968 in Hudson’s Hope, BC. Reg, his first wife Marilyn, and their daughter Maureen, lived there until 1971. Reg then took on a new position in the Lower Mainland and the family moved to North Delta, BC. He met his wife Leanne at BC Hydro and they married in 1997. Reg then retired in 2004 to start a consulting business. He suffered a devastating stroke in 2012. Several years later, he and Leanne moved to Vernon, BC, and enjoyed the beauty of the Okanagan and view of Kalamalka Lake from their home.
Reg was an engaging conversationalist with a great sense of humour who always had a joke to tell. He was a kind and generous man who loved life and always made the best of things. Reg’s joyful demeanor and more recent interest in Buddhist principles had a calming influence on his family. Always the optimist, he would frequently encourage his family to see things from more constructive and positive viewpoints. Reg was our GPS, he was a wealth of knowledge and is very sadly missed.
