POSPISCHIL, Herta Maria

Herta Maria Pospischil (nee Henne) sadly left us for her big sleep on June 20th 2024.
Above all Herta will be remembered for her smile, infectious laugh and her kind welcoming nature. Herta was born in Binswangen, Germany on April 2, 1934, the first child of Theresa and Luipold and was big sister to her 4 siblings Guenter, Gabriela, Irene and Franz. Herta’s childhood was filled with climbing the trees and pinching apples in her Uncles orchard, hikes with her father in the forest mushrooming, and developing her life-long love of birds.
At the young age of 22 she and her sister Gabriela set out for a new life in Canada. They answered the call to the Okanagan by her Uncle Max. Her brother Guenter would follow a year later while her sister Gabrielle would return to Germany.
Eager to start her new life in Canada, Herta immediately took a job waitressing at the Okanagan Café where she met Mary and her husband Frank, the first of many life-long friendships in her new country.
Herta’s trustworthiness, quick wit, and excellent business skills were quickly noticed by a regular customer from CJIB Radio and she was offered the job of Program Director – a job she did for many years and made her the coolest auntie.
Herta met many other newcomers and made many life-long bonds in those early days in Vernon. It was her love of people and the benefit of the latest music records from her job that she became the hostess of the party. It was at one of these parties that she met the love of her life, Daniel (Danny). Danny was so taken by Herta he devised a plan to see her again and “accidentally” took her Beret, a story we have all laughed about and been grateful for.
Herta and Danny made a wonderful life and community for themselves in Canada. With their strong work ethic they saved and built their “paradise” on earth in Coldstream. Herta loved her family, friends and brethren of the church. Her love for hosting and being with friends and family stayed with her always and we will miss tea and cake on the patio of her paradise.
Together Herta and Danny had many adventures traveling, hiking, camping, fishing and managing the farm. They enjoyed bible study, and looked forward to yearly bible camp where Herta was known and loved by all for her work at the book table.
There are so many wonderful and heartwarming stories of our much loved auntie and sister, as a family we cannot thank Herta’s extraordinary extended family enough for helping Herta live her best life and reach the age of 90, in the place she loved more than anywhere else.
Hertha was predeceased by her loving husband Daniel; her parents; her siblings Franz and Gabrielle; her SIL Robbie Henne and BIL Wolf Cheveale. Dear friends Mary and Frank; Hertha, Ann, and many more.
She is survived in Canada by her brother Guenter (Sheila) Henne, Niece Tania (Andreas) Henne, Grand Niece Katja, Nephew Eric Henne and her family in Germany including her sister Irene, and BIL Oscar, nieces Catrine, Gabby, and Herta; nephew Wolf, great nephews and nieces. As well as all of those whom she welcomed and made feel like family.
Special thanks Elaine, Eileen, Maurer, Sheila, Helen, Ted & Muriel, Nick & Candace, Richard, Ken and Sue, the Brethren of Christadelphians and the community of friends and neighbors who supported Herta over the years.
Thank you also to the kind doctors and nurses on 3 East at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
Herta has been cremated and her remains will be spread with Danny’s in the forest above their home at a future date. Until then, please give a Blessing or a Toast to our much loved Herta for a life well lived, we will miss you.
