POGGEMOELLER, Mildred "Millie"
Posted Nov 12, 2024 | 11:17 AM
Mildred (Millie) Kaminski was born shortly after her twin sister Winifred on January 3, 1929 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She passed a half a block away at Polson Extended Care almost 96 years later on Nov 5, 2024.
Mille and Winnie were the first born children of Emil and Georgina Kaminski. Fred, Jean, Joan, Ed and Ena followed, totalling 7 children in 5 years.
The Kaminski’s lived and worked on a farm at the corner of Pleasant Valley and Rimer Rds. Millie grew up knowing the value of hard work and always preferred working outdoors.
She attended Central School, which is now Bearisto Elementary and later worked at the Vernon News and Bulman’s Cannery.
Millie married one of the neighbour boys, Bill Poggemoeller on April 5, 1952. They lived in Cherryville and Sugar Lake before landing at their forever property on Silver Star Rd. Here, they raised their family, grew apples, alfalfa, always had a vegetable garden and dabbled with some livestock in the early years.
She loved to be busy, and when not farming and looking after her children and grandchildren, Mille volunteered her time quilting with the church ladies, with hundreds of blankets donated locally and to 3rd world countries every year. She crocheted many beautiful baby blankets for the Hospital Auxiliary, family and friends, and spent many hours working at the Pro Life Thrift shop.
She was devoted to her church, loved God and did her best to live by His word.
Millie was predeceased by her daughter Debra Ann in 1976, husband, Bill in 2012, and her twin Winnie in 2021. She was the last survivor of all her siblings.
Millie will be lovingly remembered by sons Larry (Linda) and David (Deborah), Grandchildren, Sean (Roxanne), Cory (Benita), Kaitlyn (Scott), Melissa (Michael) and Gregory. She also has 5 great grand sons, Nicholas, Alexander, Wesley, Walter, Reece, and 1 great grand daughter, Elliott. She will also be missed by brother in law Ernest Poggemoeller (Lucy), sisters in law, Gertrude Babcock, and Wilma Poggemoeller, many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Linda Kronbauer who also became Millie’s best friend.
Anyone who knew her, knew a kind soul, with a generous heart who had an abundance of energy as long as physically possible.
Her family is so grateful for the compassionate care of her Doctor, Lindsay Hayward, her devoted caregivers, Chari & Bill Blair and the incredible staff at Fintry North in Polson Extended Care who tended to Millie in her final years.
Please join us in celebrating Millie at 1pm, Thursday November 14, 2024 at St John’s Lutheran Church, 6525 Okanagan Landing Rd.
In lieu of flowers, we ask for your thoughts and prayers.
