It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness, we announce the passing of Philip Kanigan on February 24, 2022 at the age of 91. Formerly from Castlegar, Philip moved to West Kelowna in 1994, where he lived for 27 years with his companion, Liz. In 2021 they moved to Vernon. Philip worked as a sawyer in Castlegar for 32 years. He had a passion for gardening, wood carving, travelling and family gatherings.
He is survived by sons Philip (May), Steven (Lorraine), daughter Larisa (Drew), brothers Walter (Vera), Mike (Mary), sister Olga (Joe), 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Philip is predeceased by his father, Nikoli, his step-father Walter, his mother, Nastia, wife Nellie, companion Liz, half-brother John and daughter Kathleen.
We wish to express our gratitude to the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital and the North Okanagan Hospice Home for his care during his stay there. Cremation and a close family memorial will take place in Castlegar at a later date. Philip, our beloved Dad, Pops, Deda will be greatly missed for his generous, caring and fun-loving nature. He will fly away on the wings of a dove and leave fond memories behind for us to treasure.
