With heartfelt love, we announce the passing of Nicolaas (Nick) Verhage on March 22, 2025, in Lumby, British Columbia. Nick lived a life filled with adventure, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. He was the rock in all our lives—always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, and offer his wisdom.
Nick is survived by his loving wife, Marlene; his children Amanda (Taylor) and Ayla; and his stepchildren Cole (Kelli) and Jennifer (Spencer). He was a proud and devoted Opa to Freya, Lincoln, Meara, Callie, and Corbin. Nick is also survived by his siblings Cors (Linda), Lydia (Bob) and Trudy (Rob) and many nieces and nephews who will continue to cherish his memory. Nick was predeceased by his parents Cors and Truus Verhage and his siblings Johanna and Adriann, but their love and guidance shaped the remarkable person he became.
Nick’s warmth, generosity, and love for life touched everyone who knew him. He built a successful career as a Sawfiler, where his skill and dedication earned him not only respect but also lifelong friendships that he deeply treasured. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A celebration of Nick’s life will be held on April 6, 2025, at 1 PM at the White Valley Community Centre.
Rest easy, Nick. You will be forever loved and missed.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the BC Wildlife Foundation or the Lumby Wildlife Assocation.
